Mayhem Gets Hip New Look

If you stop by Mayhem Dance Club in Mayfair these days, be sure to bring your shades because they club has a hip new look. With striking pink and purple accents, multiple levels, and a cozy seating area... the club has been decked out for a truly ravin' feel bound to satisfy most discriminating club hoppers.

Hard work is bound to be involved in a makeover like this and the refit of Mayhem was no exception. The work lasted a good week and the finished club was opened for the public to enjoy on Monday, 27 June. The completed look is the brainchild of club manager tayla Tigerfish and London builder Billy Arentire. The two decided that a lounge area was imperative to the club so that people could "relax and just sit and enjoy the atmosphere and the music," as tayla said.

Billy Arentire sees refreshing club looks as a must in SL, saying, "We've found that night clubs in Second Life tend to mimic those in Real Life, and as such require a lift every now and again." His hopes is that the new look will generate excitement with the regular crowd as well as bring in people who may not have partied at Mayhem in a while.

While the refit of Mayhem is indeed an achievement, Billy acknowledges that, "One of the key elements of the venue is its staff. Mayhem has a terrific team." With live D.J.'s every night playing a great variety of music, experienced management and hosts, and a hip new look the club is bound to draw attention. Billy's invitation is open to all: "If you haven't been to Mayhem in a while you should drop by for a drink, a dance and a chat!"

Rosie Haroldson to Head Knightsbridge

It was announced in London this week that Rosie Haroldson will be heading Knightsbridge as the new Sim manager.

Rosie brings a variety of real life skills to this position that make her an ideal candidate for the job, including experience in customer service, administration, retail management and hospitality. With 10 months experience in SL and nearly five months experience hosting and managing clubs (including the nostalgic Coach & Horses and the popular Three Bells) Rosie brings much to her new role.

Rosie's journey in London has been an exciting one, beginning as a Greeter in the Hyde Park gateway helping new residents and moving to hosting and management. She fell upon the Three Bells while exploring and "immediately fell in love with it." After some intensive research and footwork, she discovered that there was real life Three Bells: "I nearly fell off my chair with excitement when I saw it!!! OMG it was trendy, chique and upmarket... exactly what I was looking for!" And her work there has been absolutely upscale, as the venue was a quick success and continually thrives.

With so many positives behind her, we fully expect that Rosie will have great plans for the Knightsbridge Sim. And indeed that is the case. As she has said, "Knightsbridge is the mix of old and new... old being the charm of yesteryear as Knightsbridge is the first of the original London Sims. The new is a combination of that charm mixed with exciting new venues to entertain you and dazzling new stores to shop away your hours in." But though she recognizes that Knightsbridge is great as is, she realizes there is always room for improvement and plans to make a few changes with the help of her team by "concentrating initially on roads and pavements which need upgrading and there is a public park/recreation area that also need to be updated... We will be making our way around the Sim, street by street, working our magic here and there to make Knightsbridge not only beautiful, but an enjoyable and desirable place to be, not only for our existing tenants but for new tenants to enjoy also."

Rosie will be replacing Angelique Macarthur who has stepped down from management. Like all of us here in London, Rosie wishes Angelique well in her future SL endeavours.

Rosie is excited to begin her adventure and London welcomes her. Rosie remarked, "I would like to thank London management for giving me this opportunity. While I settle into my new role as Sim Manager, please be patient with me as I am still learning... but if you see me in the street, please do stop and say Hi!"

We expect that this will be another exciting ride with ups and downs... but a fantastic finish. Good luck, Rosie! We know you'll be great!

Londons first fishing contest!

London have just held its first fishing contest!!
The proud winner turned after a fierce struggle out to be Karola Silversmith closely followed by Torric Rodas! I came in third but got myself (except all the lovly fish) a lovely black and white bikini top on the hook! Click the image below for a bigger view.

If you haven't noticed it yet, London has a "7Seas" fishing-game close to the Dell behind the small freebie shop.

Simply buy a fishing-rod (you can buy a demo for just 1 L$) from the vending machine there and start fishing! It's alot of fun and except all the colorful fish you can catch you can also have the (bad?) luck to get things like a mermaid and merman, scrap metal, personal motorboat! boot, sack of dynamite etc. on the hook!

The fishing game is open to anyone one 24/7 and once in a while we will have more contests.

Welcome Home Ice and Karola!

Second Life has proven time and again that home is not where you live... it's where your heart is. Many of us here choose to mark our own little space in Second Life in a city or place very unlike our Real Life homes. For example, city dwellers look for cabins or beach resorts and Virtually Linked London is a melody of diverse voices from around the globe. London is not just an orientation gateway... or a smattering of clubs... it is a community... a place to call home, and for many of the staff who work there, the friendships they've formed with each other are closer akin to family ties. And that is why, when Ice Hartshon and Karola Silversmith left London to seek their fortunes elsewhere, there was a great deal of sadness amongst the team.

It is with great joy on Saturday June 19, that Torric Rodas announced the return of London Greeters and bloggers Ice Hartshon and Karola Silversmith.

Ice and Karola were ecstatic to be home. "We are both so happy to be back in the London team," Ice revealed. "We have missed the sim and the great team and the residents a lot."

Welcome home, you two! We missed you!

C&H Reopens Its Doors

Stepping into the Coach & Horses is a bit like stepping back in time. You get flooded with that sudden nostalgia that comes with good ol' boy humor and Guinness and naughty bar jokes.

And there are few places friendlier that you can find in London if you're looking for a great place to chat with old friends or dance with new ones.

The reopening of the Pub on Saturday, June 19the after it burned to the ground under the misguided cigarette of Regent Parx was a resounding success. Music played for a full crowd and a "rock" themed contest spurred friendly competition.

The new wood tones with the warm fireplace, classy Fleur de lis and well stocked bar were a much needed face lift for this pillar of London. Stop by and check out the changes yourself!
Click HERE for a TP to the Pub which is open nightly from 1pm SLT (9 PM UK) till the last man falls over!

Coach & Horses Burns Saturday Night!

On Saturday evening, June 12, revellers looked on in horror as the Coach & Horses Pub in Mayfair burnt to the ground.

Pub Landlady Eveshka Blackheart explained that over 50 people turned out to watch the England game in the pub and had a fantastic time. However, during the match London celebrity Regent Parx carelessly discarded a cigarette in the heavily crowded pub and what happened next will go down in Mayfair history.

In actual fact, the Coach & Horses has remained unchanged for 9 months now and London Architect Billy Arentire and Eveshka Blackheart decided that old interior was looking a little tired and have designed a total refit/replacement for the plot.

Eveshka explained, "The old Coach was so well known, we couldn't simply remove it and replace it, so we decided it should have a fitting send off. Over 60 people witnessed it's last moments. We would love all those people who were crying into their hankies to attend our grand opening on The New Coach and Horses on Saturday 19th June. We are sure they will love this completely new design".

We look forward to seeing the new pub, which we are told will arrive as soon as the old one stops smouldering.

BeeGees Tribute Concert

Tips for Inventory Control

When you start in Second Life you will soon be amazed by the amount and variation of items you can pick up with free or with those precious Lindens. But be prepared…once your inventory reaches 4 figures you will soon be pulling your virtual flexi hair out in frustration when you try to find those gorgeous jeans you bought last week.

So what every dedicated Slifer needs to do is put some time and effort into controlling that inventory before it breeds into a monster that takes over the world!

Firstly you need to understand your folders. In your inventory you will see two main folders – inventory and library and these are the same for everyone first signing up.
The library is the public section with the goodies given to everyone – once you use an item from here it will load into your inventory folder – which is your private section.
The folders with icons are the standard folders – these cannot be moved or deleted. However extras folders can be created within these as mush as you wish….which is the first key tip…

Folders, folders, folders
Just like in real life you organise your clothing into specific drawers and wardrobes – so you should with folders in your inventory.
You have a body parts folder – within this you can create extra folders – maybe for hair, skins, shapes, eyelashes, nails. The same applies to your Clothing folder – why not create one for shoes, hats –whatever you need to find your items fast.

You will find you need to apply this organisation to all folders – gestures, snapshots, notecards – ultimately it will seem a lot of work but not as much as looking through 150 photos to find that beautiful one of you dancing in your wings at Mayhem club!
Make folders for HUDs…furniture….vehicles – it will depend on your own inventory what you choose to have folders for. You will then find that you can move your items into these leaving it much faster to search once you know what your items are which is the second tip….

Rename and organise
All modifiable items can be renamed – so call them something you will recognise it by again – and think onwards about the amount you will gather. So don’t call them blue jeans – maybe blue jeans & butterfly will be better.
If you have non-modifiable items you need to rename just pop them in their own folder and rename that to something recognisable.
Of course the best thing to do is ensure you only have items you use…so tip number 3…..

Delete and trash
If you have an outfit you hate and are never going to use…..delete it – especially if it was a freebie. Once you delete an item it will move into your trash folder. At this point you can still find it and restore it to your inventory.
Items in the trash folder still count in your inventory and will slow its loading down – so once you are sure you want to permanently remove then empty your trash regularly by right clicking the folder.
Also once you have opened a box and have the folder of items out of it you usually take this empty box back to your inventory – make sure you delete these straight out again.
Once you have a fabulous tidy inventory you can find your items in a number of ways…oh yes its tip number 4.

Search and filter
You have a number of tools at the top of your inventory for finding items:
1) Search – type in red and this will show you all items with red in the title – this is where your skill at renaming helps.

2) Filters – looking for specifically a gesture…..use these filters to narrow down what you see

3) Sort options – you can change whether your inventory is sorted by name or by date depending on what you are searching for.

4) Recent items tab – if you just purchased something and can’t find it click on this to see your most recent items.
Now you have a clean well-organised wardrobe – but sometimes it does all go wrong…sad face. We have all experienced that moment of opening our inventory and screaming ‘OMG Linden ate my shoes!!’

The key rule is don’t panic – on nearly all occasions your inventory hasn’t disappeared - it just hasn’t loaded correctly. There is official help and guidance for this – so either go see your friendly London Greeter or check out the following page:

You may need to spend some serious quiet time on initially getting organised but just think – once you are done you can reward yourself….with a little shopping trip!
