A-List Re-Open's in Westminster

Hotter than ever, the A-List reopened in Westminster on Wednesday July 28th, 2010. Managed by Croft Atolia, hosted by donna Redrose and weekend DJ ed by the fabulous prettybones Flux, the club will be open from 9pm to 1 or 2pm UK time.

The A-List is another terrific London build with, as Croft put it, a "relaxed atmosphere and anything goes, within moderate guidelines." Contests display avatar profile pictures and there will be different events and theme nights planned for the future.

Croft hopes that the A-List will provide an "alternative friendly place for people to come and let their hair down" as it will "still be open after most of the other clubs have closed." After the relaunch on Wednesday, he has loved seeing regulars return and enjoy themselves and is excited about the new visitors as well, wanting them to know they too are welcomed guests!

New Development in Kensington!

The concept was simple: and open garden area with flowering Cherry Blossom trees and a pleasant shopping district with top quality stores where people could enjoy themselves. Built behind Rendezvous, the Kensington Church Walk may also play host to outdoor events in association with the club in its overall goal to increase the number of businesses in the area to support the larger community.

Built mostly by Rob Fenwitch, there are currently eight shops available in this premium district and one in Kensington High Street where it joins with the Church Walk. The shops range from thirty to fifty or even an allowance of sixty prims and rent varies according to prim count and location.

Are You Ready for LazerFrag?

With cool twists and turns and awesome neon lights... Lazerfrag is the newest gig to hit London and a must see if you're traveling through the sims. The shooting game, with a layout designed to exercise the brain, was inspired by first person shooter games. Wiccy Shakelton remarked that he had "seen a few systems for second life available, but not one that is as easy to play as 1-2-3."

The new build was a team effort with Eveshka Blackheart building the venue layout, Caiaphas Wilberg creating the game-board textures, and Wiccy Shackleton providing the scripts and mechanism for the game. It will be maintained and managed by Wiccy.

Though open 24 hours a day and free to the public, Wiccy expects to see most of the venue traffic between 8 and midnight UK time. Tournaments are being planned and will be announced as and when available.

Lazerfrag has no rules and is easy to play. The object of the game is simply to shoot as many of your opponents within ten minutes as you can while avoiding being shot, using the venue's layout to hide, duck, scamper, and otherwise outwit the other players. Each successful shot earns you 10 points and the winner is announced at the end of the game.

Lazerfrag is something a little different for the London community and Wiccy hopes "it will add a new dimension to London, to make it a bit more exciting and to build a more vibrant community."

EdBarber Melody performs at Bogies

Bogies patrons were in for a treat Sunday night when EdBarber Melody made an appearance and performed live for the attending audience.

Influenced by Cat Stevens, Paolo Nutini, and Damien Rice, this Brighton, UK performer is one of SL's best. His performance was like good chocolate... smooth, bittersweet, and lasted just long enough to make you want more.

The best thing about his performance was the personal touch he added, working audience member's names into the music and cracking a few good jokes, he held Bogies in the palm of his hand.

"Rendezvous" to Open in London Friday Night

I once walked into a swanky jazz place in real life where live musicians played saxophones and trumpets and stylish women blew smoke clouds above their heads. It was during a festival in that city and I remember thinking that it was a bit like stepping back in time. You gained a sense of the culture of the place in the beat of the music and the throb of the dance floor. Rendezvous, London's newest Club, with its wall mural, bistro tables, classy white piano, and sexy chandelier promises to be one of those kinds of places.

Club Managers Stavros Jolbey and DoctorEva Adored have announced that their grand opening will happen Friday, July 9 beginning at 5pm SLT (1am UK). DJ Stav will kick off the party for the first three hours and the evening will finish with a live performance from KalEl Ur in the style of Buble and Sinatra.

The contest board will be open all night with prizes award once an hour:
  • First hour: Best in Casual
  • Second hour: Best in Baggy
  • Third hour: Best in Rat Pack
  • Fourth hour: Best in Formal Wear

The club plans to cater to the late night crowd, so many of London's patrons are up long after the last dance is wiggled out at many of the other venues, and will be a venue where you can take your date for a quiet chat on the sofas or a swinging boogie on the spacious dance floor.

But don't forget to step out back and smell the flowers... pretty cherry blossom trees, and fragrant pink flowers surrounding a serene pond are the perfect backdrop for the kissing bench where you can end your romantic evening with a soft embrace.

So don't miss out! Click HERE to TP to Friday night's party. Be part of London's night life!

Hyde Park to add Affordable Housing!

The east side of Hyde Park will soon be home to new affordable housing geared towards new residents. 9 beautiful homes, created with the exciting feel of London, located near the Gateway and Sandbox for easy community access and a great opportunity to make friends will be landed soon (as they are currently in the sky above Hyde being built) along a road that will likely be called "Regent Lane." They should be available for rental by Tuesday.

The homes, which will be priced at 350L per week for 100 prim, will include integrated security, electronic doors and a media changer in the rental box, so that once a payment is made a person only has to be invited to the land group before they can begin enjoying their new residence in the community. In addition to the already bustling, active location, the idea of a general store is in the works, where residents will be able to purchase attractive, low prim furniture and decorations at low cost for their new abode.

The homes are really a natural progression to the progress being made in the already lovely Gateway. According to Torric Rodas, it will give new users and opportunity to rent their own property "whilst in the safety of Hyde Parke where there are many experienced Greeters to assist them, should they need initial help." The goal was to add to an ever growing community in Hyde and hopefully assist the park in becoming more self sufficient.
While homes in Hyde may seem like a step away from London reality, builder Billy Arentire points out that, "As with all buildings in London, the homes in Hyde Park are based on ones that exist in real life. They have been chosen for their unique style, a style that fits very nicely in a park setting.... Having a starter home in the sanctuary of Hyde Park will put residents near the heart of London and within reach of any assistance new residents may need."
Like with all London homes, residents can expect top notch, personal service and business integrity. These homes, built in the bustling, active part of London's Virtually Linked Sim, will be a welcome addition to the already growing community.

Big Ben Under Construction

Changes are an important part of the dynamic atmosphere of Second Life. Things are redecorated, rearranged, redesigned, and rebuilt on a continual basis to improve them and draw interest. Even cultural sites such as London's Big Ben can occasionally benefit from a little renovation.

Big Ben (which is actually the name of the bell) is itself an older Second Life building. Originally found in Chelsea in Second Life, it was taken down, and re-rezzed. It is still much the same, and was actually built before sculpts were invented. Unfortunately the existing teleports to the upper floors no longer work. As those are being repaired, Wiccy Shackleton has installed an elevator system in the building to give visitors an opportunity to explore and enjoy the building's cultural significance.

Big Ben in Second Life London is not an exact replica, though each floor is slightly bigger than the one below it, as is the real Big Ben. It has features such as a ballroom which is part of the palace of Westminster (which Big Ben is a part of). A grand opening event is in the planning, and the ballroom is being considered for use as a gallery of sorts.

Above the ballroom is the clock room where you can hear the chimes ring out just like in real life. According to Wiccy, "The textures are accurate to the real Big Ben, a lot of painstaking work was put into them." Big Ben used to attract visitors with its bungee jump when it was featured in the Chelsea Sim, and though that is now missing, Wiccy has said that there are plans to reinstall it.

Interestingly enough, if your graphics settings are high enough you can sit in the throne room at the top of the building and see anywhere in virtual London. Wiccy points out that you do need a high draw distance though. And above the throne room is a love pavilion, a romantic little spot where people can get away and "see the world without the world seeing them."

Why put so much effort into one building? According to Wiccy Shackleton, "A lot of emotional power is harnessed in this building -- very few people could name many buildings in London, but everyone has heard of Big Ben, and has seen it, either in media, or in real life."

Indeed, as part of British culture, Big Ben stands out. During both World Wars, Big Ben chimed to give people hope. "At the end of the second World War, they chimed Big Ben to let the nation know the war was over," said Wiccy. Considering the limits of Second Life when Big Ben was built, the structure itself is impressive. "The early builders put a lot of work into this," he remarked. And indeed... the building and the end result were worth the effort.
