The Longest Set Record - and The Weekend in London!

London Club and Pub life was busy again this weekend.

Crofty Does It Again
For all those who love to party on London, we are now setting records!!

On Saturday Crofty beat the record for the longest playing set in London. After 4 and a half hours he held a 'Come As U Are' contest - I didn't see anyone who had just come out of the shower .. but..!!

A-List in London - Location: Knightsbridge (24, 189, 22)

In the end the A-List achieved 9 1/2 hours of continuous music and partying at the Lincoln Building in Knightsbridge.

The London Pub Crawl
The Pub crawl on Saturday was a success. With as many as 16 being on it at one  time. The 'Grab a Nigel' quest meant we got people who had never been to London before. Sam worked hard to bring this to us.

Those on the crawl went to parts of london they hadn't seen before too. So a few surprises were on the list.


Thank you to all the venue hosts who made it enjoyable and thanks to Beany and Evie for making this such a great tour.

SATURDAY NIGHT PARTY!!

Not to be left out, The Rendezvous was kicking with sounds by Songbyrd Chantelle. Our pubs, the Green Man in Knightsbridge, Coach & Horses in Mayfair and The Greyhound in Kensington were all serving. So I hope no one got too drunk!

Pink Piano in Hyde Park by Croft Atolia, affectionately known as 'Crofty'

Hyde Park. London. Mid January. 6am. It can get very cold. So, Croft Atolia decided he would liven up Hyde Park.

Out came the pink piano and he sat down and started to play some kind of weird jazz-rag tune.

Within what seemed to be no time at all, a small crowd had had gathered and the cue was there for as Crofty said, "A good old fashioned cockney knee's up".  The dancing had started. Out came the dance orbs and glow sticks  and before we knew it, a mini party was going on right in the middle of Hyde Park.

People who happened to tp in at the time also joined in with the fun and joined in the dancing and the multi coloured orbs etc,.

This went on  for a good couple of hours with various people coming and going and joining in the dancing and banter and everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time.

 It all goes to prove that even when there only seems to be one or two people there and nothing is happening, it is possible to find it within oneself to conjour up a party out of thin air.

It was cold, it was early, it was mid winter, but Hyde Park was truly rocking that morning.

About Town - Getting To Know - Isobel Byron

Isobel Byron

I was walking in the park and had the delight of bumping into Isobel Byron at the Dell. Isobel is a long term resident of London and has been in Second Life since 2008. You may call her an old-timer, for certainly in Second Life terms she has become somewhat of a sage, although young in her real life.

I wanted to catch up on what Isobel is doing so she suggested we went to her pub, The Greyhound in London's Kensington sim. This pub is exactly as it is in the real location inside Kensington. As it is a replica of the real world, all local houses and buildings are the same as you would find in real life. The Greyhound is run by Isobel in Second Life.

When we arrived, a poster announcing a photo competition greeted us. So I asked her to tell me about it. Isobel told me that she loved the annual photograph competition that we run every year and she was holding this for London this year. I remember the winners of some of the last competition and some of their stunning entries.

She also told me that she intended to have a sculpture competition, just like last year too. I think Isobel has an annual task on her hands here and can’t wait to see some of the entries.

Wall of fame

When we went inside the pub, we found some comfy sofas at the back, so we sat on the sofas. I noticed that we were next to her ‘wall of fame’. She said that there were actually a lot of Ed Follet on there, so if you want to be added too – when you go to the pub see if you can persuade her to put you up on the wall!

There are lots of reasons to go to the pub. Isobel is continuing with her wonderful array of things to do, poetry nights, keep fit classes and lots of other fun stuff that may be a little different from clubbing and dancing. I personally look forward to seeing what she has on offer. 

Getting Personal With Isobel

I started to dig a little about her personal life and Ed Follet was mentioned, of course. Isobel and Ed have long been a couple in London. Ed arrives and they have some personal banter between them so I ask – ‘where did you first meet?’.

In the days of the UGC (Underground Club) in Knightsbridge, they met while partying in the club. And in Ed’s words that he “knew from that point she was the girl for me”.

Ed sounds very romantic and so I asked her where was the most romantic place he had taken her to? She told me it was Stonehenge on the solstice. Conjures up images of this lovely couple locked in mystical time and place together eternally.




Being a creative person and an artist too, modest Isobel does a lot more than just live in London. Her art and imagination make the Greyhound what it is – a fun place to be and to relax, with interesting things to do as well. I personally look forward to attending her next event. Happy New Year from Debs

On behalf of myself and Virtually Linked Limited, I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and to let you know that this is the start of a very exciting new year for us.

Having formed a well loved community in Virtual London inside Second Life, we are adding to it to make it more exciting.

Regular events are coming to you such as quarterly fashion shows, some events will coincide with real events and link with the real world too.

Hyde Park

Hyde Park has remained a central location for people to hang out and get to know one another. It has become known as a place for newcomers to make friends and for everyone to enjoy a safe environment.

Park Life

Thanks to Evie Falconer and her team, Hyde Park and the 'Hub' as it is affectionately known are considered by all to be a great location and a valuable part of the London experience.





Entertainment
Our pubs and clubs are getting better and stronger. The A-List will be playing some great sounds under the guidance of Croft. The Greyhound is brought to you by Isobel and she will have her program of unusual pub events - watch this space. Capital has its usual mix of trance and wicked music.

More events, bigger and better!

Rendezvous Jazz is just getting better and the Ballroom offers traditional romantic dancing. Watch ou7t for SL’s own version of ‘Strictly’. Mayhem is being revamped so watch this space again for more news. Plus - a new club with exactly what London has been missing so far. Find out more...!

Games, hunts, quests and more are being rolled out in London too, many with links to the real world.

Media

Debs appearing in 'GridWrap'

London and Virtually Linked will be working with other media producers and getting involved with TV shows and broadcasts as well as machinima.

Last year Debs appeared on several Virtual TV programs in Second Life including The Grumpies, GridWrap and the Dating Show. We will be encouraging our team to take part in more this year.

Look out for the new video 'Robot' that we have produced exclusively with a record label for 'The Real Mr  Smith' - a London based artist who is growing in popularity.

Merchants
For merchants, we have a closer program of working with you to promote your services through our entertainment venues and groups. Our new merchant liaison team will soon be contacting you about this.

We have additional resources in progress that will make selling in London even easier and more enjoyable for everyone. Our merchant team is raring to go in 2011 with new ideas and lots of ways to position your brand in the limelight.

Residents

London is still very much 'for the people'. Wherever you live in the world, let us give you a glimpse of what it is like to live in London. What the people are like and what there is to do there. By becoming a resident in virtual London you are also becoming a real 'Londoner'.

London homes

People stay in their 'homes' for years as they are part of the community. As such we are going to start a 'residents committee' this year, where residents can make suggestions and form the future of London in Second Life.

Fabulous Fishing Fridays!

Starting on Friday, January 7, 2011, London will start hosting a regular Friday 7 Sea's Fishing Tournament! The tournament will start each Friday at 10am SLT until 10pm SLT. Participants have the chance to win prizes! First place will receive 600L's, second place will receive 300L's, and first place will receive 100L's! The competition will take place in the Hyde Park 7 Sea's Fishing Area:

London Rings in 2011 With a Bang

There was plenty of partying happening as we bid adieu to 2010 and welcomed 2011. The partying kicked off with DJ Eva and the gang at Club Capital. Eva drew in so many revelers that the Mayfair sim CRASHED for 15 minutes. The partying continued with DJ Crysis and saw a Mayfair record 61 avs in attendance!!!

DJ Simon and Nahi welcomed the New Year with some good tunes and great fun at the Greyhound pub in Kensington, and a best in 80s contest. The A-List was rockin' with Donna and Leila. And DJ Plas rang in the New Year at The Green Man.

Partying continued late into the night (or early morning for our UK friends) as the New Year was welcomed with partying at Rendezvous in Kensington. DJ's Eva and Macbain hosted a 4 hour party to ring in the New Year across the US time zones with more than 20 in attendance.

Everyone had a great time but the top partier award goes to Rob Fenwitch who did his own pub crawl, managing to party in Capital, A-List, Green Man, Greyhound and Rendezvous. What a way to welcome the New Year . . . and I hope you have gotten some sleep Rob!
